Italy -vs- Spain
Two continental giants convene under the Wembley arch, as Italy clash with old foes Spain in the Euro 2020 semi-finals.
Both 2012 Euro finalists are intent on booking a place in the deciding game of this year’s action-packed championship.
Italy defeated World Ranking No.1 Belgium in the quarter final by Barella’s sixth international goal – his nation have won every match in which he has scored – and an unstoppable Lorenzo Insigne strike, has stretched their record-breaking unbeaten run to 32 games, booking a place in the final four.
Italy now has scored 11 goals in this tournament, compare to 2006 World Cup which Italy scored 12 goals to help them won the champion of that year, and they now believe they can lift the Delauney Trophy for the first time since triumphing on home soil in 1968.
Spain won their third Euro Champion in 2012 as they defeated Italy by 4-0. This year tournament is a bumpy ride for Spain so far, and they have to fight at least 120mins to end the game in Round 16 and Quarter Final, cost the Spain players exhausted in both mind and physical.
Despite a sluggish start, Enrique’s men have already racked up 12 goals in the competition; equaling their highest ever total at a continental finals, set during the triumphant campaigns of 2008 and 2012.
Spain continue their unbeaten record to 13 matches, but seven of those matches ended in draws though, which suggests that their lack of a clinical finisher can sometimes hold back such a slick passing machine.
In fact, the 2010 world champions have not been back to a major tournament semi-final since their 2012 victory bookended a four-year spell of global dominance.
Chiesa’s pace will cause problems to Spain defense, while Immobile and Insigne will continue to start for the team.
Meanwhile, Spain’s Sarabia unlikely to be ready in time as he suffered a muscular injury, Olmo will replace him in the line-up.
Morata and Ferran Torres will set to keep their places in Luis Enrique’s attacking trident.
It’s difficult to predict a match that involves two great teams in the history. However Italy may progress to the final as they show their strong determination and mindset.
I will go for Italy by score line 2-1.
